Email Deliverability Monitoring Tools: What Actually Matters When You're Sending Cold Email

BEC Growth·Cold Email and Client Acquisition

You're sending cold emails. They're well-written. Your list is clean. But you have no idea if they're actually hitting inboxes or landing in spam folders.

This is where most people panic and start throwing money at tools they don't really need.

Here's the truth: you don't need to monitor every metric. But you do need to monitor the right ones. And most cold email senders are doing this wrong - either checking things that don't matter or missing signals that would tell them exactly what's broken.

Why You Actually Need Deliverability Monitoring

Your email infrastructure is like a car engine. It can look fine on the surface, but if something's wrong inside, you won't know until it breaks down completely.

By that point, you've already burned through your sender reputation with Gmail, Outlook, and everyone else. Your domain is now on blacklists. And your campaign - which could have brought in 5-10 clients - is dead.

Deliverability monitoring is the dashboard that tells you what's actually happening with your emails before they go dark.

What You Should Actually Be Tracking

Most tools give you 47 different metrics. You need about 5.

1. Bounce Rate

This is simple: how many emails are being rejected by the recipient's mail server?

There are two types of bounces - hard and soft. A hard bounce means the email address doesn't exist or the domain is invalid. A soft bounce is temporary (usually a full inbox). Hard bounces above 3-5% mean your list is garbage. Soft bounces above 5% mean something's wrong with your sending volume or IP reputation.

Track this weekly. If it spikes, investigate immediately.

2. Spam Complaint Rate

This is what kills you fastest. When someone marks your email as spam, it tells the email provider:
